Featuring a collaboration between ascendant star Kelsey Lu and veteran director Vincent Haycock, FOREIGN CAR aims to provide a platform for role subversion through the music video medium. Before and during the filming of FOREIGN CAR, Dropbox’s collaboration suite provided Lu, Haycock, and the A24 team the ability to work together and craft the concept while working across disciplines and time zones, then execute flawlessly onsite. Highlighting Vincent’s arresting visuals and Kelsey’s mesmeric voice and charisma, FOREIGN CAR captivates, thrills, and takes you on a subversive ride.
Born and raised in North Carolina, Kelsey Lu grew up surrounded by art and music. Her mother was a pianist, her father a percussionist, and she began playing the cello at the age of 9. When she was 18 Kelsey decided, on a whim, to audition at the North Carolina School of the Arts. Without having scheduled an audition, or even applied, she was granted admission and a full scholarship. Lu proceeded to accompany the Nappy Roots at a college concert and became increasingly involved with the music scene— eventually moving to New York and beginning her career in earnest. Kelsey has worked with artists such as Solange, Sampha, Blood Orange, and Kelela and, in 2016, released her first EP: Church. Her debut album Blood has been hailed as ”the sound of a untamable free spirit flexing their wings“ and ”strikingly beautiful…fraught with turmoil and nourishing for the soul“
